Warm Congratulations to Christian Schwoerer’s team La Pericolosa — the new Melges 32 World Champions. The Corinthian title goes to Kilian Holzapfel’s young crew of Homanit Junior.

Held at Real Club Nautico Valencia the Melges 32 Worlds were sailed over four days with six races and La Pericolosa never scored worse than fifth in a race. The German team was followed by Carlo Alberins Italian team Calvi Network in 2nd and Lasse Petterson’s Norwegian team Pippa in 3rd.
Newly crowned World Champion Christian Schwoerer commented, "Conquering this World title is a great emotion for the whole team. We believed, after the victory in the last event Melges World League of Barcelona, that we could make it real. I really have no words for what we have managed to do here in Valencia, which happened thanks to the great work done by all the guys on the team. The crew, especially this year, has grown a lot, making our boat fast in every condition and earning today the most important title in this wonderful One Design Class.”
The Melges 14, 17, 20, 24 and 32 are designed by Reichel/Pugh and built by Melges Performance Sailboats.
ABOUT REICHEL/PUGH MELGES
The Melges 32 is designed by Reichel/Pugh and was first built by Melges Performance Sailboats in 2005. Melges 32s hold a unique position among the world’s one design sportsboats as one of the most successful classes of high performance yachts. Also from the Reichel/Pugh drawing board are the 14, 17, 20 and 24 classes.
Designed by Reichel/Pugh in 1992 and first launched in 1993, the Melges 24 was ahead of its time when introduced and it is still the gold-standard today. Nearly 1,000 boats have been produced by Melges Performance Sailboats. Now in its 26th year, the Melges 24 remains the premier monohull sportboat boasting one of the most competitive fleets in the world filled with Olympians, and both Professional and Corinthian sailors.
Introduced in 2008, designed exclusively by Reichel/Pugh, the Melges 20 fulfills the need for a more compact and comfortable, yet spacious and fast sportboat.
The year it was introduced, Sailing World Magazine named the Reichel/Pugh-designed Melges 14 Best Dingy.
