Reichel/Pugh Design No. 162 66' Canting Ballast Alive, owned by Philip Turner and skippered by Duncan Hine, bookended an aggressive year of racing as ORCi Overall winner of the 2019 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, winning IRC Division 0 & ORCi Division 1. Last year, Alive won the George Adams Tattersall Cup for Overall Winner on IRC and the Charleston Trophy for Overall Winner on ORCi in the 2018 Sydney Hobart. Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design won the Alan Payne Memorial Trophy – for the designer of the overall winner on handicap.
Alive was built by Westerly Marine, launched in 2006 as Stark Raving Mad and was Black Jack before she was bought by Philip Turner in 2014. Black Jack was third overall & 1st overall ORCi in the 2012 Sydney-Hobart. Under Turner she continued a winning legacy and broke the 2014 Melbourne Vanuatu record, took line honors and won IRC Division 0 in the 2015 Hong Kong Vietnam Race, and then broke the 16-year-old Rolex China Sea Race record in 2016. Alive won the 2016 Brisbane Keppel race, placing third over the line to Super-maxis Wild Oats XI and Black Jack 100. Finished second on line and third overall in the 2017 Brisbane Gladstone Race and third on line in the subsequent Brisbane to Keppel race.
In preparation for the 2019 50th edition of the Transpac, Alive swept 2019 California Offshore races with back-to-back line honor wins in the SoCal 300 (Santa Barbara to San Diego), Spinnaker Cup (San Francisco Bay to Monterey), Coastal Cup (Monterey to Santa Barbara), and Newport-Ensenada Race. She also set a new course record for the 200nm Coastal Cup of 13h 48m 28s.

- Since 1996 Morning Glory 80’, R/P Maxis have taken Line Honors 12 times, 2002 Alfa Romeo 90’, with Wild Oats XI taking Line Honors a record nine times in thirteen years (2005-2008, 2010, 2012-2014, 2018), Alfa Romeo 100’ 2009.
- R/P designs have reset the course record three times in 1996 Morning Glory 80’, 2005 Wild Oats XI and 2012 Wild Oats XI.
