Reichel/Pugh designs won two of six classes amongst the 50-boat fleet, and with Reichel/Pugh having drawn the top two boats in the Maxi class, and designed the 2nd place J-Class Ranger.
Billed as the Maxi Worlds, the 2022 edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup marks 24 years of participation by Reichel/Pugh boats, and in that time our designs have now amassed 41 Class wins. Competing this year were six Reichel/Pugh designs including the 2021 MAXI WORLD CHAMPION R/P 100’ Wallycento Magic Carpet 3, R/P 100’ Wallycento Galateia, R/P 82’ Highland Fling XI, R/P-Nauta SW90’ All Smoke, R/P 78’ Capricorno and the J-Class Yacht Ranger.
For 2022, Reichel/Pugh designs won two of six classes amongst the 50-boat fleet, and with Reichel/Pugh having drawn the top two boats in the Maxi class. Reichel/Pugh is the naval architect who recreated the 2nd place J-Class Ranger. Reichel/Pugh Senior Naval Architect Tony Beale was aboard 2nd place Maxi 100' Galateia.

Reichel/Pugh 100’ Wallycento Galateia – 2nd in Maxi Class
Reichel/Pugh 78’ Capricorno – Mini Maxi Class 2 Winner
Reichel/Pugh 138’ J-Class yacht Ranger – 2nd in J-Class

Reichel/Pugh is proud to have been the naval architect that successfully recreated Ranger, the renowned Stevens/Burgess design. Harold Vanderbilt racing the original Ranger successfully defended America’s Cup in 1937. In taking second place in Porto Cervo, Ranger won the Kohler Cup for the top performing team over the three 2022 J-Class regattas. They won their class at Saint Barth's Bucket, were third at Superyacht Cup Palma and finished runners-up at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.

The Reichel/Pugh team designs for performance longevity and has unparalleled success at producing some of the world’s most distinctive, most enduring and consistently rewarding sailing yachts including designs that have continuously won major regattas over several decades. Reichel/Pugh Superyachts are the most successful cruising performance yachts. 147' Visione, RP-Nauta 112' Nilaya, and 200' Hetairos have each won overall the St Barths Bucket along with Class wins in the Maxi Rolex Cup and overall wins in other Superyacht events. The R/P-Nauta 130’ My Song was crowned Superyacht of the Year in 2017 at the International Superyacht Society Design Awards. In 2019 100' Magic Carpet 3 won overall the Loro Piana Superyacht Cup and the 2022 Giorgio Amani Superyacht Cup.

Alessandro Del Bono's Reichel/Pugh 78’ Maxi Capricorno (originally built in 1995 as Morning Glory II) repeated last year’s performance to win the Mini Maxi 2 Class, guided by tactician Flavio Favini. Launched as Morning Glory, Capricorno has a deep history previously winning the 1997 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, the 1997 Fastnet Race IMS, the 1996 Cape Town-Rio Race (Broke Course Record), the 1996 Sydney-Hobart Race (Shattered 21-year-old Course Record) and the 2006 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (2700nm Breaking Course Record). Alessandro Del Bono reflected last year that, “We are obviously pleased, in spite of being 26 years old, the boat has proved that it's still very fast having won this Maxi event in 1997. This victory is a great reward for both the crew, most of whom have been with us for 25 years, and for my father and my son, we have three generations of the family on board.”
Irvine Laidlaw, owner of the Maxi Highland Fling XI: “The boat is 13 years old this year and we’re delighted that we can still compete and compete so well against other boats that are significantly younger.”
